Dust and foreign bodies can easily flow under a rigid lens and cause discomfort.  However, it is difficult for this to happen with a hydrogel lens since it is large and conforms so well to the eye.  Therefore, if you have a patient working industry or other conditions where foreign bodies are a concern, hydrogel lenses would be the better choice.
